MINGORA: The Oct 26 earthquake completely destroyed 37 schools and damaged 254 others in Swat district, according to a report released by Alif Ailan.

The initial survey report of the damages to education sector by the earthquake was presented at an all-party conference here on Tuesday.

Alif Ailan representative and education activist, Dr Jawad Iqbal, said a total of 291 schools, 140 girls and 151 boys, were damaged in the earthquake. He added 37 schools were completely destroyed, saying Babuzai and Baharain tehsils were worst affected as 83 and 67 schools, respectively, were damaged there.

He called for allocation of adequate funds for reconstruction and rehabilitation of schools.

The report also revealed categorisation of MPAs in the province against their performances aimed at bettering education system.

“MPAs Mohammad Amjad, Rashad Khan and Mohammad Arif were placed in category A, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak was placed in category B and Provincial Minister Atif Khan in category C.
