MINGORA: Vice Chancellor Swat University, Dr Jehan Bakht vowed to accelerate construction of Swat University building as absence of varsity’s own building has heightened security issues. He has appealed KP government to help in security facilitation and providing funds in the research head.
Dr Jehan Bakht who recently took charge as a Vice Chancellor of the Swat University was talking with reporters about the challenges and his targets to undertake for the uplift of the varsity.
He said that, presently, the university was operating in seven different rented buildings where security facilitation was a big challenge. “Absence of varsity own building is the real challenge due to which we have hired rented houses for taking classes,” he said, adding that he had turned his focus on accelerating the construction of phase one of the university building in Charbagh.
He said that completion of the first phase would accommodate 1700 students and slowly the whole university would be shifted to its own building in Charbagh. “For speedy construction five contractors have been involved to construct five different sections in phase one,” he shared.
He said that the varsity was being operated on adhocism and he aimed to hire permanent teaching faculty for better and proper teaching and learning process.
“Linking Swat University with some of the reputed international universities is in my agenda because collaboration for new universities is an essential element that enhances its recognition,” he said.
Owing to some unique characteristics of Swat valley, he desired to establish Swat varsity’s flagship departments. “I am trying to lead the varsity towards its own specialized sectors of Agriculture, Forestry, Fishery, Archaeology, Peace & Conflict where students from across the country will do PhDs,” he vowed, adding that Swat valley was rich in those medicinal plants which nowhere could be found.
He said that Swat University would not be an information-transferring institution but a prestigious varsity of generating knowledge.
He said that a center titled as “Swat Chair” would be established dedicated to the detailed profile and date of its resources, issues, history, culture, social, financial, sectors and where people would get every information on a single click.
Appreciating the spirit and love of Swati students he said that people of Swat were peace and education loving. “I salute to the spirit and love of Swati people with the education as they remained stick with the education even during the mayhem,” he said, adding that he and his team would try their best to provide better and proper education to them.
