MINGORA: The local shopkeepers and commuters have demanded of the tehsil municipal administration to take notice of the uncovered manholes at Mingora Bazaar as these are posing threat to people.
“Nishat Chowk is the busiest square of Mingora as it connects half of Swat with Saidu Sharif but the district administration is asleep and cannot see the two open manholes which have already caused several accidents,” said Abdullah, a vendor.
The drivers also complained about the open manholes in the middle of the road at Nishat Chowk and said that sometimes bricks and stones were placed to caution people. “Few days ago, the tyre of an auto-rickshaw fell in the manhole, leaving three persons injured including two schoolchildren,” said Zahoor, a driver.
Hundreds of commuters and customers have to pass through Nishat Chowk daily to reach vegetable and meat market, cloth market, medicines market and other shopping centres.
Qayum, a seventh grader, said that last week a child fell into the open manhole and got his leg fractured.
The shopkeepers and drivers demanded of the government to immediately cover manholes to ensure safety of people.
