MINGORA: Academic staff and students of Post Graduate Jahanzeb College paid tribute to their English literature students who got first position on their academic research paper in Islamabad recently.
To pay tribute formally the academic staff and students of the college gathered and appreciated their efforts.
The group comprised of two students and a teacher got first position in the first National Graduate Conference organized by Allama Iqbal Open University at Islamabad which was attended by students of over 25 universities from across the country. About 150 research papers were presented in the conference.
They grabbed the first position in English literature section on their research study “Ghani Khan as the Incarnation of Emily Dickenson: A Comparative Study with Reference to their Theme of Death”. Both the students, study in the eight semester of BS English in the college.
One of the two students, Amir Turkey told MP that they were the most junior students in the conference and did not expect to get first position as there were experienced and senior students and scholars in the competition.
“We worked hard in our research and mainly focused on new and innovative approaches for our research topic which we completed in eight months. It was very much interesting to compare the death theme of Emily Dickenson with the renowned Pashto poet Ghani Khan as we found frequent similarities between the two great poets,” he said, adding that it was really a great achievement for them.
He said that both the poets have written majority of their poems on the theme of death.
They divided the poetry of Ghani Khan and Emily Dickenson in three categories: thanatology, pneumatology and eschatology and found that both the poets have many similarities regarding the concept of death, soul and the life after death in their poetry.
Abid Karam the other student of the group gave their success credit mainly to their teachers, particularly, the one, Muhammad Saeed, who was leading the group and said that their teachers guided them in the right direction during their research.
“Actually, we studied and compared many other poets on the theme of death but we found Ghani Khan and Emily Dickenson different and unique. Apart from death both the poets have similarities on many other themes but we chose death as both have nearly the same approach on the theme in their poetry,” Abid Karam said.
They said they would work to further refine the same research and would continue to carry out more researches in English literature in future.
Muhammad Amjad one of their teachers in the college told MP that it was welcoming news for the teachers when they learnt about their success. “A teacher feels proud when his students get such acclamation or recognition and I am not only very happy but proud of them for achieving national level recognition,” he said.
