MINGORA: Swat police accelerated its campaign against underage bikers after general public appreciated the move asking police to continue the operation until no teenage biker appear on the roads.
In wake of increasing causalities of the underage bikers Swat police have launched operation against the minor drivers and bikers. Police have also imposed wearing of helmets on adult riders to minimize the death causalities.
District Swat Police Officer Saleem Marwat said that police found underage bikers increased day by day who violated traffic rulers and also observed one-wheeling.
“So we have launched the operation against the minor riders and drivers, a step towards road safety as 66 underage riders have lost their lives in bike accidents and 56 other have sustained severe injuries from January till date this year,” he said.
Sharing the road accidents data of the year 2015 he said that 270 road mishaps have occurred in Swat including 63 motorcycle accidents of minor riders.
“Apart from the motor cycle causalities, 77 persons have died and 393 have sustained injuries in other vehicles mishaps so far. We have 143 death and 449 injured causalities so far in the district this year,” he added.
He said, to tackle the issue and ensure smooth traffic system, Swat police have taken serious measures to stop minors from riding bikes and driving other vehicles.
“When police find underage bikers on the road they sized their bikes and take the riders to police station. We then call their fathers or guardians and get signed affidavit in which they take oath not to allow their children to ride bicycles. Till now we have taken 1225 affidavit from parents and guardians and the operation is underway,” he said.
He said that use of helmet and other precautionary measures have also been implemented on adult riders.
