MINGORA: The local cultural and literary circles on Thursday appreciated a new video song titled ‘Iqrar’ for highlighting the recent violence in Swat and its impact on love and peace.
Budding Pashto singer Shahid Khan, also a patient of blood cancer, has melodiously sung the song, which was written by poet Samiullah Gran Khan and filmed in the scenic Swat valley.
A large number of cultural activists, poets, writers and social activists attended the video launching ceremony and lauded the song.
Cultural activist and Suvastu Arts and Culture Association chairman Usman Uslas Yar said the song depicted the true colours of Swat negating the recent violence.
He said the events marking musical, literary and cultural activities encouraged elements for a balanced society and therefore, they should be held regularly.
“Shahid Khan has proved that he is a true Pashtun and Swati. Being an advocate for music, love and peace, he’s rejected those who broke music instruments and promoted violence,” said Humayun Firas, a Pashto language scholar, who translated the song into English.
The scholar said the singer sold an old family and bought a musical instrument to send out a message that Pashtuns were not terrorists and instead, they’re peace-loving and cultured people.
Poet Samiullah Gran, who wrote the song’s lyrics, said he had passion for poetry and highlighted the current situations in his work.
“I am excited to see so many people appreciate the song. This appreciation has encouraged me to do better in future,” he said.
Singer Shahid Khan said he would sing more such songs in future. Poet Bakhtzada Danish, who was also in attendance, received applause from the audience after he recited one of his poems.
