MINGORA: Residents of College Colony and Saidu Sharif on Thursday complained about lack of cleanliness saying the Water and Sanitation Services Company’s staff members don’t clean drains regularly causing wastewater to flood roads.

They told Dawn that the major drain in front of the Shuhada Park had been blocked for the last three months as the repeated requests to the WSSC to clear it fell on deaf ears.

“This is the third month that the pipeline remains blocked causing disturbance on road. I have lodged complaints to the WSSC several times but they are not clearing it,” said Bashir Ahmad a resident of college colony.

The residents and shopkeepers said the wastewater flooded roads causing foul smell and inconveniencing pedestrians. The residents warned if the WSSC didn’t clear drains, they would block the road.

“From the Public Health office to the main gate of Shuhada park the road remains dirty of stingy water due to which the area is full of suffocation. The continuous flow of water has damaged the road in different places too,” said Azahar Ali, another resident of the area.

When contacted, WSSC official Mian Shahid Ali insisted that the drain pipeline laid by the C&W department during the beatification project was very small and therefore, it often remained clogged.

“The issue can be resolved permanently if the small pipeline is replaced with a big one. We informed the C&W department three months ago about it, but to no avail,” he said.
