MINGORA: Scientists and education experts urged students to adopt new technology to meet the paradigms of progress and prosperity in the present day developed world.
They were speaking in a session titled “Students meet with scientist” organized by the KP directorate of science and technology (Dost) aiming to motivate and mobilize student at grass root level and to promote the culture of science and technology in the youth. Renowned genetic scientist Dr Habib Ahmad, who is the fellow of Pakistan Academy of Science and was nominee for American Society of Human Genetics award 2019, was the key speaker at the occasion.
Principal Government Post Graduate Jahanzeb College Saidu Sharif, professor Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, professor Nazir Ahmad HOD Zoology department, Salman Wahid the assistant director, KP directorate of science and technology, Dr Muhammad Ilyas assistant professor of the center for Omic sciences, Islmia college Peshawar were in participants. Large number of students and teachers from government and private schools attended the session.
Dr Habib in his motivational speech said that he was excited and felt proud to talk to the students of Swat as he himself belonged to the valley. He said that the present age belonged to science and technology and the students must know how to properly explore and utilize the world through modern technology. “It is the age of science and technology and Pakistan has huge resources in the field with high potential of manpower. Our children are highly talented who often top the world’s best institutes which proves that Pakistanis are education loving,” he said and suggested that every student must set his or her goal and work hard to achieve it.
He also narrated his life story that how did he become a scientist. He mentioned names of the Pakistani scientists including those belong to Swat. He also answered questions asked by the students.
The students who attended the session said that it was one of the most fruitful sessions of their life as they learnt new things about science & technology and of scientists. “We met a scientist and talked to him which was something new for us because we only read about scientists in the books. I liked the part about genetics which clarified many things about the subject. I also asked questions about genetics which the scientists answered in detail,” said Saba Khan a student of Khushal school and college.
Dr Jawad an education expert in Swat said that science and technology related sessions were not very common in the country which was why many students did not understand it well. “Today, I noticed the enthusiasm of the students for science and technology and I was impressed by the questions they asked from the scientist,” he said and expected that such events would be held frequently in future.
Principal Post Graduate Jahanzeb College professor Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah earlier welcomed the guests and termed the activity essential for the students.
