MINGORA: Commissioner Malakand division Riaz Khan Mahsud said that he was grateful to the European Union for providing personal protective equipment (PPE) for doctors, paramedical staff and other health care givers of all the districts in Malakand division.
He was speaking in a ceremony of handing over personal protective equipment (PPE) to the regional administration by the CDLD Programme aiming to support KP government to combat Covid-19. The ceremony was organized at his office on Wednesday.
He said that it was a great and must needed support to the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Our doctors and other health care providers who are fighting at the frontline against Covid-19 are in dire need of personal protection gears. I extend my gratitude on behalf of the people of Malakand division to the European Union for contributing the PPE,” he said.
He acknowledged the support from the European Union (EU) and said that the KP government was truly thankful to EU for the direly needed support in the difficult times. “The Covid-19 poses a great danger to doctors and paramedics handling and treating the infected patients,” he added.
Nadeem Bashir the CDLD team leader said that the PPEs and associated assistance worth PKR 6.2 million were provided to the medical staff of 13 districts in KP. “Along with the PPE, a Covid-19 focused comprehensive communication campaign comprised of outreach material including banners, streamers and radio announcement is also underway,” he said.
He added that the PPE would protect the medical workers from getting infected while treating the coronavirus patients in their health facilities. “While the awareness campaign will help educate local communities on Covid-19 preventive measures,” he said, adding that through the collective efforts, KP government would be able to safeguard the healthcare professionals and protect the local people from the coronavirus pandemic in the province.
The CDLD technical assistance team handed over the PPEs to commissioner Malakand division for onward distribution to the Covid-19 designated health facilities across all the districts of Malakand division. The preventive gears comprised of N95 masks, gloves, googles, and gowns.
