Swat: Health expert here on Monday urged people to get vaccinated against the Covid-19 as they were better protected than those who were not inoculated.

Dr. Rana Jawad, a Pakistani based epidemiologist at the University of Washington and the Chief Executive Officer of Global Health Strategists and Implementers, through an online video link briefed about 15 journalists of Swat. The session was held at Saidu Sharif which was organized by Media Matters for Democracy, Islamabad.

During the first half of the session, he enlightened the participants about the latest scientific data and various researches from around the world by leading universities and institutes regarding the corona-virus, its new variants and different vaccines. In the second session, he answered questions and queries asked by the participants.

Throughout the session Dr. Rana Jawad emphasized on the importance of vaccination, especially for those with weak immune system and senior citizens. He also briefed the journalists that how the vaccines were helpful and important. “Even those people who recovered from the Covid-19 and have developed antibodies, must get the vaccination,” he said, adding that vaccination would minimize the risk up to 70 percent.

During the session, some of the participants also shared their experiences of contracting Covid-19 either by themselves or by their family members. One of them shared an unusual experience and said that his mother was admitted in the hospital battling the Covid-19, where he observed that no SOPs were enforced by the hospital.

“Even the staff of the hospital was not worried about any SOPs and precautions that can prevent Covid-19,” said one of the participants. Upon which the speaker showed concern. At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Rana Jawad advised and recommended to follow SOPs strictly and to get vaccination done by all with which the session was closed.

The participants thanked the speaker and Media Matters for Democracy for arranging a useful session for them.
