MINGORA: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan has said that a country cannot see progress and development if its prime minister is involved in corruption which, at higher level, blocks foreign investment.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Malam Jabba chairlift in Swat on Thursday, he said corruption committed in the Nandipur power project was greater than the collective theft and corruption done in the whole country.

“Corruption at the lower level only harms people, but corruption at the higher level destroys the country. That’s why the PTI is launching a campaign against corruption at the higher level on Sept 3 from Lahore,” he said, adding that the campaign was not against any political party, but for the survival of the country.

The PTI chief said that with the re-establishment of the chairlift, which was destroyed by the Taliban in 2008, Malam Jabba would become more developed and beautiful where tourism would flourish.

He said the country’s biggest issue was unemployment and investment was needed to create job opportunities.

“Foreign investment comes only when the governance system works properly,” he said, but regretted that corruption had blocked the foreign investment in the country. “When investment is stopped, there is no employment opportunity, so we have to eliminate corruption and improve governance”.

Mr Khan said tourism was a major industry in KP which could create employment for youth. He said Pakistan was the most beautiful country in the world where tourism could play a major role in generating income for local people.

KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Mr Khan inaugurated the chairlift project. Addressing the gathering, Mr Khattak praised the Samson Group for completing the project before the deadline.
