MINGORA: Juniour students of a local school here on Thursday tried to sensitize people on the rising issues; from global warming to the shortage of water, and urged to play role in minimizing them.
At least 85 students belonging from grade three to five of the City School Swat campus made their presentations to raise awareness on the use of plastic bags, global warming, forestation, globalization, facebook, personal hygiene and some other topics.
Large number of parents and civil society members attended the multimedia presentations and appreciated the students’ efforts of creating awareness. Member national assembly Ayesha Syed was the chief guest at the occasion.
The students through their presentations discussed about the causes and effects of global warming and said that global warming not only drastically changed the climate patterns but also contributed to extinction of flora and fauna, spreading several diseases and creating shortage in foods and clean water.
The students also made thorough presentation on forestation and said that forests were the source of energy, food, shelter and several wooden products. “Forestation conserves soil and maintains climate,” the students said, adding that deforestation in the country decreased oxygen and increased carbon dioxide. “Deforestation has deprived birds and animals of shelter and food. It increased draughts, soil erosion and pollution,” the students said.
The students also gave presentations on the use of plastic bags and counted its negative impacts on environment and said they were non-biodegradable. “Plastic causes water pollution and litters the landscape. It kills animals and badly effects human health,” students shared and urged people to say no to plastic bags.
Students stressed on the personal hygiene and asked people to take great care of their health to avoid diseases. They discussed on the use of water and said how water was getting scarce owing to the its excessive use. They warned that Pakistan was among the list of the countries where water was rapidly decreasing.
The students also gave a detailed presentation on globalization and shared useful data about the negative impacts of globalization.
At the occasion school principal Safia Rehman said that students were engaged in practical undertakings so that they could better understand the challenges and threat to the world and environment.
MNA Ayesha Syed appreciated the students’ practical abilities and thought-provoking presentations. “Engaging students in such practical presentations play role to prepare them for the challenges of the global world. I am happy that these small kids are so confident and well aware about global issues. I appreciate their teachers and school administration,” she said.
