MINGORA: Large number of people from all walks of life flocked to the two day divisional Kisan Mela 2015 on the concluding day here on Thursday.
People took keen interest in stalls displayed by the farmers from the seven districts in the Malakand division exhibiting variety of fruits and vegetables and cereal crops, honey and dry fruits produced in their areas.
The main objectives of the Kisan Mela were to create a sense of competition among the farmers to grow more and teach them how to increase their income.
“To create awareness and develop linkages between the farmers of all regions in the Malakand Division for better understanding. Variety exchange was also the motive behind the show,” Muhammad Uzair the coordinator of the show and district Swat agriculture director told Dawn.
The concluding ceremony was presided over by member provincial assembly and DDAC chairman Fazal Hakim who urged farmers to adopt modern and scientific technology in the field of agriculture for better yield.
He said that farmers were the backbone in the country’s economics.
“There is a strong need of adopting modern and scientific technology in agriculture as practiced in the developed countries,” he said, adding that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was keen to assist and help farmers.
“The government is providing free improved seeds of wheat and trying to organize Form Service Centers,” he said, asking the farmers community to present him a list of issues so that he could discuss them with higher authorities for possible solutions.
He distributed prizes worth of 750,000 rupees from the provincial government among the farmers who showed excellent performance.
The farmers appreciated the event and asked the provincial government to organize the same event in each district so that more and more people and farmers can participate in them.
