MINGORA: The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) students on Sunday distributed non-food items among 500 quake affected people here.
The NUST students and administration with the support of Pak Army reached the Grassy Ground in Makan Bagh here to distribute the non-food package among the quake affected people, who thanked the generous support in their hard times.
Shamsher Ali, a resident of Gul Kada, who received the package, said that his house was partially damaged in the earthquake and had not received any help yet.
“I am really grateful to the NUST students who stood by us in our hard times.”
Zaiton Bibi, an old lady from Islampur village, was also among the beneficiaries, who had prayers on her lips for the students.
She said her three-room house was destroyed in the earthquake and she was happy to receive the package as all the daily use stuff, including quilts and blankets, were damaged.
The earthquake survivors said they were in need of warm clothes and blankets to cope with the harsh winter.
Syed Qasim Naveed, a student of NUST, who distributed the items among the quake affected residents, told this scribe that when the earthquake struck the country’s northern parts, and they came to know about the losses, they decided to collect money to buy the required items and distribute them among the quake victims.
“We have arranged this activity under the NUST Community Service Club to help the earthquake victims as this is our duty to stand by the affected people in their hour of need,” he said.
Mohammad Zubair Shah, deputy director administration, NUST, who supervised the relief distribution, said: “We purchased warm clothes, blankets and other stuff for children of about 500 families.”
