Mingora: Administration of the Swat Varsity officially turned down the news related to putting a ban on sitting or walking together of girls and boys students in the university.
Aftab Ahmad, public relations officers of the Swat University categorically denied the news linked to the university administration in a press statement issued here on Friday.
“The University of Swat is providing equal opportunity of education to both men and women and do not believe on gender discrimination. As there is no separate university for women in Swat, the admiration of the university encourages women of the areas to get modern education by taking admission in the varsity,” stated the statement issued by the office of Swat University.
Referring to the earlier notification, regarding the ban on meeting of girls and boys students by the proctorial board, the PRO said that the proctorial board was entitled only to maintain the discipline of the varsity and had nothing to do with releasing notification concerning matters beyond its jurisdictions.
“Only the office of the registrar is competent authority to issue such notifications,” he informed, further adding that a committee has been constituted which will be presided by the deputy registrar Dr. Jehan Bakht, to probe the matter,” it said.
Earlier a notification was pasted on the notice board of the proctorial board stated, “All the students of Swat University are informed that boys and girls are not allowed to sit or walk together within the campuses or outside the campuses. If any student male or female found sitting or walking together inside the University campuses, penalty ranging from Rs. 50 to 5000 will be imposed and an emergency meeting will also be called with their parents.”
The notification of banning male and female students from meeting sparked criticism from students and civil society members.
